How to improve Chinese reading abilities?   J.SHUTONG suggests you four tips.

Step One: Listening .
Before reading books, you may as well listen to the audio books for a few times. Imagination helps you understand the story line. Then complete the cloze exercise to practice the Chinese character handwriting.

Step two: Reading.
Although bilingual readers are easier to read, you had better read All-Chinese stories first. Translation just a supporting part.

Step three: Activities.
Part one is Group discussion.  The more you say, the more you know how to express.
Part two is quiz.  Learning from the questions. Quizzes help you check your abilities of Chinese grammar, glossary, usage, and text comprehension ...etc. 

Step four: Ask .
Frequently ask somebody better than you; you'll be better soon.
