Due to 程朱理學, Song Dynasty female were under social pressure so as to be isolated by sexism discrimination in some respect. There were more than five hundred people in the painting 清明上河圖 painted by Song Dynasty’s great painter Zhang Ze-Duan (1085~1145). The whole masterpiece was full of male, however female characters were about twenty one, merely 4% of all the characters in painting. Those women were either madams, grandmas, home maids, or prostitutes. Where were young ladies? Maybe in sedan chairs and carriage, or did she veil her face?
